recording how long the spindle is in use

I have a machine that is in a communal space and believe that there is a add in or generic script or recipe to log the usage by recording how long the spindle is in use

does any one know where to find this or have a sample that does something similar please

I had gotten some help here with a similar idea. I had it mostly working, then lost interest, and never finished putting the finishing touches on it. (My bosses stopped demanding the data. The individual pushing for it is no longer with the company.) At the time I knew absolutely nothing about programming or python, since I probably have learned enough to make it work the way I would have liked it to.
