I mostly get .stl files or other mesh files which are then translated into toolpaths for inner/outer or upper/lower etc.

STL files will always be straight-line segments, as that is what they define.
An STL file is a set of triangular faces, and the CAM simply finds (for example) the point where Z intersects the (XYZ) equation of each facet edge.
The correct process it probably to set G64 to match the STL file creation tolerance, then you should get a good representation of the object modelled (rather than a good representation of the STL file, which isn't actually what you want)

Great suggestion!
Ofcource I want the model not the file to be reproduced ;)

As for bit size, I used a roughing path first to clear out everything but a 1mm margin, then I did a 45 degrees finish and then a -45 finish.

The bit is a 4-flute endmill but I will try later running finish with a ball-end.
Unfortunately I don't have any 2-flute chamfered or ball-ends, but I do have a 12-flute ball.

It's the info I already had and already knew.
I need to find where to get a proper bit locally though as ordering from afar is impractical, and a big hassle as well as a customs nightmare.
