Sieg KX3 was created by burdickjp
I recently required an early version Sieg KX3 with a CNC4PC board. I installed LinuxCNC 2.7.4 and started following these directions: wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?KX3

I'm having trouble getting the Z axis to home and getting the spindle to spin. I'm going through all the wiring to ensure it's correct, but would also like some feedback on my hal and ini files. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Yes, the Z axis limit switches are normally closed while the other two axes are normally open. This is why I suspect there might be a wiring irregularity.

Once I've got my hal and ini happy I'd be glad to update the wiki.

Can you elaborate on the manifestation of the trouble?

Sure!
When trying to home my Z axis the head triggers the end stop, I see the input lights on the cnc4pc c11g, but the head keeps moving until it reaches the physical limit of it's travel or I hit the estop.

With the spindle, I'm genuinely not sure. It appears to do nothing at all.

What do you see if you connect a halmeter to the axis.2.home-sw-in pin?

Nothing. Until I investigated via halmeter and found my z axis limit switches were wired to pin 15. Once I switched that in the .half file, I got it toggling correctly. After restoring the home limit switch parameter in the ini file I also got KT homing correctly.

Halmeter is very useful, even when it shows that nothing is happening.

I spent some time trying to get the spindle going with no success.

How is the spindle controlled? Is it a relay and manual speed adjustment, or software-controlled speed too?

The CNC4PC C11G takes in a step and direction signal and produces a 0-10V output that a VFD driver board reads and drives the brushless DC spindle motor with.

Have you checked the 0-10V with a multimeter? Is the VFD enable signal changing state?

what G-code are you using to attempt to start the spindle?
