I've been running linuxcnc for few years on an old 1gHz amd processor with 8.04 hardy. Since I can;t update this system, I got the same new mobo/processor combo listed by PCW to run on Debian with Linuxcnc 2.7.
The install from the live image was ok, and said autoconfiguration of the network was successful. But when running the system, there is no network detected. I tried updating the driver, but could not get it to work,
Any advice on getting the networking working on this new system?
Thanks,

If you have the H97 MB it looks like the NIC is not supported by wheezy, but tperry in this thread was able to get the driver updated and working.

forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=112327

May help

Another option is to use Preempt-RT/LinuxCNC uspace and a more recent kernel
(4.4.1-rt5 is the latest )

Check my other post for a link to the drivers. If you need help compiling them let me know and I'll post more detailed instructions.

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I downloaded the driver and attempted to compile it. During the make it stopped with an error saying something like e1000.7 couldn't be accessed. So, I was unable to get the network running.
I did install the preempt RT. This did provide networking, but latency jumped from about 4000ns base up 28000ns. So, if I can get the live install running, it would be better performance.
i've gone through the bios and disabled everything that I could. Now latency is about 6000ns, so this is a lot better. So I plan to stay with the preempt kernel instead of the live install.

Thanks,
Pete.

I downloaded the e1000e-3.2.4.2.tar.gz ( I am making it available at www.dropbox.com/s/h5ij1zmt1udawgq/e1000e-3.2.4.2.tar.gz?dl=0 ) if you want to use the same one I did. One thing I noted is I had to reboot after the install.

tar zxvf e1000e-3.2.4.2.tar.gz
cd e1000e-3.2.4.2/
cd src
make
make install
reboot

After reboot do an

lsmod |grep e1000

and see if the modules is loaded. if so you should be able to do an ifconfig and see there is an eth0 now available. Configure the network as you normally do.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

I had to get some parts made, so I only got to try your procedure today. The driver loaded and I have networking working..
I think this will be a better kernel for software step generation.
Thanks,
Pete.

I am using a vonets Var11n-300 to connect to my wifi, (though I think the VAp11n is waht I should have bought, about $16USD) Anyway it needs a laptop with wifi to get it into repeater mode and then you plug its ethernet cable into the onboard NIC and you have internet!

The following hardware works pretty well with the current standard wheezy pre-build iso:

Motherboard MSI H97M-E35
Gskill Ripjaws X DDR3-1600MHz 2x4GB
Intel Pentium K Anniversary Edition G3258
