Expect for one of the links I had to replace with a new address it worked until
sudo make modules_install
I got:
cp: kan inte ta status på ”./modules.builtin”: Filen eller katalogen finns inte
make: *** [_modinst_] Fel 1
In Swedish this is, can not take status on blablabla file or folder do not exist or something

Did it start installing modules at stop in the middle or did stop at the beginning?

(Though at this point would probably just give up on that PC as unsuitable for preempt-RT)

Are you sure you dont have a hardware problem on you system (bad drive perhaps)

Yes but I still have some motivation left :)

I ran every row separately so I could see were it went wrong and its only that command that doesnt work and give the error.
I also tried it in a new terminal and then I got a different error
make: *** no rule fot to create the target "modules_install" (also translated from swedish)

edit: Damn it was no space left on the drive :/ have to free it upp a bit and try again (its a very small hard drive on it)

i was following your syntax and ran into an error and was wondering if you knew how i could correct it. upon enterink make xconfig, term returned the following

<mymachine>rtlinux/linux-4.1.5$ make xconfig
HOSTCC scripts/basic/fixdep
CHECK qt
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.c
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.lex.c
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.hash.c
HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.o
MOC scripts/kconfig/qconf.moc
HOSTCXX scripts/kconfig/qconf.o
HOSTLD scripts/kconfig/qconf
scripts/kconfig/qconf Kconfig
#
# using defaults found in /boot/config-3.13.0-66-generic

Those are just warnings so probably harmless
You do need to make sure that the RT patch applied (it also patches .config)
You can check by making sure fully preempt-able kernel is selected in the
processor type and features/preemption model section (of xconfig)

I was wanting to use a .config file from a previous patch and it seems I was also missing the fact that my system is a 64bit system. Do you foresee any problems with me simply changing that option (at the top of xconfig menu)?
I'm sorry if this is a noob question, It's just a lot to learn in a short period of time.
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Does any one know if I have to add a 7i78 Step dir board to the 7i80 if I want to controle a step motor? The step motor should be for an ATC so it is not for motion control of the mill. I hope I can use the 7i77 for this.

If 500Hz is fast enough (and it might well be) then you can use the software step-generator to drive GPIO pins on the 7i77.
