Just received my order today, USPS lost it for a few days. Thinking about going SUPER short on the cable and mounting the 5i25 in a 90 deg kit or on a riser, like this: ! Certainly no extra cable there! How far can I configure the controller before I hook up external power/encoders/servos etc? I just found out my ancient controller is functional, so I don't need to tear it apart while I build the LinuxCNC controller, unless I can't configure it without everything installed.

Hi Ben,

I moved your post to a better place so more people can find this info.

With the 5i25 plugged into the PCI port you can find only the 5i25 pins. If you connect the 7i77 to the 5i25 and send 5v to the 7i77 then you will see everything except the I/O pins. You need to connect field power to see them.

I am finally in the same position and building a new control box with the 5i25 + 7i76.

I am trying to get my head around the jumpers on the 7i76 power options. I am thinking to power the 7i76 from the 5i25 and use an external power supply for the 24V I/O etc. Could you tell me the correct jumper settings for W1 & W2 on the 7i76 as I am finding it a bit ambiguous .

Would the above be the normal way of doing this. Thanks

To have the 5i25 supply 5v to the daughter card set W1 and W2 UP (see the manual for orientation). On the 7i76 set W2 to the left hand position (again see the manual for orientation). I'll take some photos this weekend of the jumper positions. Usually the 5i25 supplies power to the 7i76 and you use a separate 24vdc power supply for the I/O.

Thanks JT In the 7i76 manual the layout is oriented with the P1 host connector on the left hand side with W1 & W2 sliding left to right so I think what you are saying is that both W1 & W2 on the 7i76 should be in the left hand position to achieve 5V from the 5i25 and 24V from external power supply to TB! field power. Always best to check.

Yes thanks JT that is how I have it. I only have one light on the 7i76 but have not yet connected 24V to field power so might not see pins in Pncconfig!!

I'm pretty sure Pncconf is not live with the card and I think it uses an xml file to "know" what pins the 7i77 has.

Ok I purchased these two cards together so I assume that it has been flashed with the correct firmware.

I am only using one 7i76 but I don't see in the Pncconfig the option to use just one card it seems to say 5i25 x 2 7i76 would this be ok for an initial setup?

Also before I start would it be beneficial to update to the latest version of Linuxcnc (I am on 2.6 I think) Thanks

Note, W2 sets connector P3's 5V power option, not W3
