LOL, I don't get it either. I put your setup file and the data strobe file in a m100 ,m101,m105 command and they work pretty good. )

I have no idea what you mean by this.

What on earth have you done?

Sorry for the confusion, I need to walk away from this for a hours. What I was saying is before I started this comp i was use the setup and on off scripts in aux m codes and ran them that way. It works but I was wanting something more reliable.

Got the machine computer up and running. raw_writer.comp works!!!!! . only thing I that might need addressed is on startup all the outs come on. It's just a flash so until I get the machine all hooked up I won't know if it's even a issue. I must have some real issues with my laptop to not get this to work there. Anyway,Thanks again.

Are the isolated outputs working now?

Yes, there is (very new) support in the 7i96 branch this should be merged with master soon
if you want to try it now you can build from source (select the 7I96 branch)

BTW, here are the 7I96 output hal pins:

23 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-00
23 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-01
23 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-02
23 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-03
23 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-04
23 bit IN FALSE hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-05

Not to threadjack, but I stumbled across this thread as I was looking for some info on the 7I96 before I purchase one. I couldn't really follow this whole thread but is there something not quite ready yet with the 7I96? I have a 7i76e running on a different project without issue but the 7I76e is overkill for that particular machine I/O wise. I was going to move the 7I76e over to the Milling machine I just picked up to convert to CNC and swap a 7I96 into the other machine. Am I better off just sticking to a 7i76e for both?

Yes, if you want the high current ( SSR ) outputs to work you either have to install the hal hacks shown earlier in this thread
or use the 7I96 branch of master

So if you don't mind using master and compiling the 7I96 branch the 7I96 works fine, otherwise
there's some rather ugly hal hackery needed to make the hi current outputs work

And if you don't need the SSR outputs?

Low current outputs (350ma like the 7i76e) would be fine for now if it just works. I didn't realize the outputs on the 7i96 were different/high current. Looking at the manual I don't quite understand how they are laid out. They are labeled as out+/-, I assume this means they can either sink or source but I don't see a field power terminal that is common to the outputs. Or am I misunderstanding the usage?

The are individual switch (SSR) outputs (no common) so can sink or source

They will work on any DC voltage up to 48VDC and switch up to 2A

Inductive loads require a flyback diode
