EMC2 crashes on startup

I have a machine that I set up from the standard EMC2 install disk. I have nothing connected to this machine yet.

When I start EMC2, it crashes. I have a feeling that I should start it in some kind of "demo mode", but I am not sure what to select.

Any pointers will be appreciated.

The system was updated up to date with aptitude update && aptitude -y upgrade.

Maybe the base period in your INI file is too small for this machine.
