Gold Border,
Tried getting rid of -p did not use stop bits. When parity is removed it appears that hy_vfd defaults to even parity. I tried all three combinations the same result. The data that hy_vfd is sending over and over appears to be
0x01 0x01 0x0B 0x2c 0x30 or decimal 01 01 13 44 48. Thanks

Is that what you see with the -g (debug) option turned on in the driver?

That is what I see monitoring the RS485 with a third pc. It is what hy_vfd is sending over and over about one a second..

So, is there any output from hy_vfd with debugging turned on?

Gentlemen,
I am pretty sure I have figured out what is wrong. I found a thread about missing RS485 chips on MACH support. I checked and I have no chip in my vfd. I ordered some and will let you all know after I install it.
Thanks for all your efforts

Andy,
Can you explain how to turn on debugging.

Use the -g switch in the loadusr line, as described in the manual page.

Put the RS485 IC in the vfd and still no comms. I've beat this dead horse long enough I give up.

eBay has many adverts saying that they sell genuine HY VFDs and to beware of fakes.

Shows the differences. Which is yours?

It's the real thing. I have had it form 6 or 7 years and there was no RS485 IC in it.. I don't know if the software to work with it is in this one. Maybe I'lll buy and new one. I can see hy_vfd putting data out but the vfd just doesn't answer.
