Need Help with Setup was created by mtd1096
I am new to Linuxcnc.
I am using a DB25-1205 BOB with a DQ542MA Driver. I know that it works because I can use it with Mach3, but when I switch over to Linuxcnc the motors will charge and hold but will not move with the “test this axis” in the setup.
Latency Test = 16116ns
Step Time = 5050
Step Space = 5050
Direction Hold = 500
Direction Setup 500
X Step (Actie Low) = Pin 2
X Direction = Pin 3
Z Step (Active Low) = Pin 6
Z Direction = Pin 7

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will have to make the step time and space 15000, dir hold and set 20000.
Thsoe BOB's are way to slow, you can get much faster step/dir times if you wire them directly to parallel port.
Here is a video using DQ420 and DQ860 with those BOB's, it can do 48 meters/minute, way to fast for any plasma cutting.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried this and it did not work. I find it odd that it works fine with mach3, but not with linuxcnc. That leads me to believe that it is a software/programming issue.
Does wiring directly to the parallel port have any downsides - such as protecting the driver or computer?

Can you tell us more about the parallel port you are using on your computer. Is it a built in port, or a parallel port card? Are you certain you have the right address specified in your hal file for your port? Can you see inputs change value, such as those for your home or limit switches?

It is parallel port card. The terminal is showing PC-style at 0xa400 (0xa000).
I do not have any home or limit switches hooked up just yet. I can hear the motors energize and they are difficult to turn by hand so I know there is at least some power going to them. I have also checked the wires to the motors with a multimeter and everything appears fine.

Edit your hal file, where it says
loadrt hal_parport cfg="0x378 out "
and change that to
loadrt hal_parport cfg="0 out "
save ad restart Linuxcnc

To no avail. Still not even a hint of movement.

Did you restart the computer after editing the hal file?
Did you increase the step timing in stepconf? Increase it even higher say 30.000 and test again, you can also change the port address in stepconf as it will override any changes you made manualy.
Also please remove the check in front of "create a simullated hardware......." in the second page of stepconf.

I have attached a screenshot of the config setup. I bumped the step timing and config to 30000; and tried for the address port: 0xa400, 0x378, and 0. I have also tried to change the invert checkbox - which it should be invert
