Encoder PPR cutting thread was created by timmert
Hi
Im retrofitting my lathe to LinuxCNC. The spindle has an encoder with 2 outputs. These outputs are 1ppr (pulse per revolution) and 360ppr. I know LinuxCNC needs 2 encoder signals (1 index). Will the 360ppr be enough for cutting thread? The 1ppr could be the index pulse.
Cheers

360 PPR is fine for cutting threads
(its even possible with 1 PPR but that has issues if the spindle speed is not well regulated)
If you have 3 signals (A,B,Index) you can do rigid tapping
