Stepper moving in only one direction

I have my stepper wired up correctly(I think/hope/maybe not) When using stepconf or after loading up the example and doing individual steps I can turn my stepper clockwise clicking the + 10 times yields the following results:

1,2,3,4,no step,6,7,8,9,no step

When I click the - 10 times I get the following movement:

right,left,right,left,so step,right,left,right,left,no step

I have a bi-polar stepper wired up as a unipolar.

Only testing one axis now as I assume the other two would act the same.

Thank you

you have an incorrect phase somewhere , or one phase reversed
without the wiring diagram it's difficult to pin point further ,

if you can give information as to your stepper motor and stepper driver and wiring we can advise further

I can't quite explain the no-step (though that could be due to inaccurate microstepping) but the rest of it sounds very much like step and enable pins are swapped.
Alternatively, you might just need to switch the polarity of your step signal. (ie, invert the pin, either in stepconf of HAL)
