fjr122,

Do this and you should be good with the 64bit kernel.
sudo add-apt-repository 'deb http://highlab.com/rtai/2017-01-10/ jessie main'
wget http://highlab.com/rtai/2017-01-10/dists/archive-signing-key.gpg
apt-key add archive-signing-key.gpg
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.1.0-1-rtai-amd64
sudo apt-get install rtai-modules-4.1.0-1

Cncnoob,
On the 3rd line that starts with apt-key you need to add a sudo or you get ...
~ $ apt-key add archive-signing-key.gpg
ERROR: This command can only be used by root.

WOW! What a difference...
I changed around my networking from my barely working usb wifi dongle to sharing the wifi (with a much better connection) from my windows box over ethernet through a switch to the cnc box... apt-get update went from being 10+min to about 30seconds.. WOW!

Yes that is normal speed. Must have been quite painful before.

I'll add the sudo to the guide.

Thanks for reporting it.

Is everyone doing ok with this HOW-TO? I haven't received any more feedback or suggestions. Please feel free to ask questions or to clarify any information that I have posted.

The better I make the How-to the better for the entire community here.

I am also shamelessly bumping my thread :)

The only thing missing ( i can not recal if i mentioned it before ), is adding git to the list of installs as it will ask later for it, just to have all done in one step.
Besides that, it is, for all intents and purposess, perfect.
Regards,
Tom.
P.S.
From experience : if there are no complaints, all is good.

I think the only thing I can think of (and you may have covered it) would be to outline how to set the default route to go out to the internet via the wifi if you only have one ethernet port (like my USFF PC) and are using Mesa Ethernet hardware.

Of course as fjr122 found, it is always best to use a wired connection if you can but if you have 2 NIC's, you still need to set up the default route.

Or just set the wired net card to be used for local addresses only. Works every time and it involves just adding a check to a box.
