Linux has a CPU usage and a load graph, the second being a type of " overall load" and that load goes up much slower than CPU load and remains trailing a while after the CPU load has fallen. That load can go as high as 500, but anything over 200 means the system is very busy and new requests will lag in execution. I think it also incorporates the memory usage and/or other system parameters, but can not recalled clearly, it's been a long time since I did that for a living.
If you want to see it in action, since you do have Mint with mate, right click on the task bar to add an applet, chose system monitor and click add. Now right click on that small window that got added and choose preferences, there click on the rest of the options, like HDD, swap, load, memory, network.
Notice the CPU and memory and load graphs and how they corelate.

Is there perhaps a DDOS thingy in the works towards the server/servers?

I have thought that might be a possibility, Considering how powerful certain new features are and have the potential to disrupt established businesses, Might sound all conspiracy theory like but it might be a possibility.

Also the site crashed about three times trying to post this reply.

The forum runs on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS, I just got my ssh keys sorted out this morning and did an update and a reboot.

Odd that I never have any problems posting here.

Mine is still hit and miss from the UK. I can read say 4 posts then it hangs for a bit.

I am not complaining as I know the forum is run by volunteers, I am just reporting it.
