Install CD Freezing Before Boot

This is kind of an odd problem, and I'm a little embarrassed to be asking. This shouldn't be hard, but I have very little experience with Linux, and I'm not sure what's happening with the computer I'm attempting to use to run EMC.

I've burned the image file to a CD, and it's definitely burned as an image, not a file. I've even checked the CD on my main computer, and I can see all the files and the cool little Ubuntu logo.

But when I put the disc into the dedicated computer, it posts, and then it loads to a black screen with the following white letters across the top:

ISOLINUX 3.53 Debian-2007-12-11 Copyright (c) 1994-2007 H. Peter Anvin

And then it stays there. Nothing more happens.

Here are some fixes I have tried:

* I burned the CD with Windows XP. That one did the one-line/black screen thing, so I tried it with Nero. Same. Then I tried it with Infrarecorder. Same results.
* I booted through the boot menu, manually choosing the CD. Same thing.
* I turned off Fast Boot in the BIOS, and got the same results... but slower.

Of course, maybe this is what's supposed to happen. Maybe I just need to walk away from it for a couple hours and let it do whatever it wants to do. But I don't know, because this is as far as I can get.

Sorry to crash the party just to complain. Any help would rule.

Older motherboard or newer motherboard?
8.04 LiveCD?
I've had to download the 8.04.4 Ubuntu CD and install that on a newer motherboard then install EMC.

Older hardware you might need to use the 6.06 LiveCD.

It's a fairly old Dell. I'm mostly using it because it has a parallel port, and my new one doesn't.

I'll give 6.06 a shot. Knock on wood. Thanks for the help.

UPDATE: That was it. The 6.06 booted right up. Thank you!
