-walk around your area, see what businesses use CNC machines and for what and how = maintenance, service, maybe CAD/CAM and/or machine setup
-see what other businesses have offices there, what they do, drop buy any that do any manufacturing = contracting work, jobs to small for contracts are especially good as no one wants to do them
-drop buy other mom/pop shops, see if there's anything automated that can help them, or streamlining their work
-any foto/video studio, ask if they need sets/props built as needed, cam cranes or robots etc
-any food restaurants that want their logos engraved/cut/3d printed/scratched on glass = see my glass engravers here on forum, add LED's as needed
-leave your phone number to all of them
-and this is very important: do not lie to them, tell them exactly about doing market research trying to find a business that helps them but does not interfere with their existing businesses, as a rule at least 70-80% of them will really appreciate this and will gladly advise you and offer ideas.

Run the "lcec_configgen" command and compare.
Also check for relevant error messages from the command "sudo dmesg"
Edit, and according to the xml you attached, output 8 to 15 is in syncmanager 1, but you'll see that.

Sounds like you have the encoder component set to counter mode
rather than quadrature mode (counter mode set to 1 rather than 0)

( another hint is your scaling, a 50 PPR encoder is 200 counts/turn
in 4x quadrature )

Hi,
I have a 50p/r encoder with A, B & Z. It threads perfect and can thread at 1000rpm no hassles. I am trying to do rigid tapping, but when I use G33.1, it taps to the right depth, but when the chuck reverses, the tap goes in more and not out. Its like the stepper is not being told to reverse direction. 
In my HAL file I have the three inputs setup (net spindle-phase-a encoder.0-phase-A) etc, I have the scale set to 50 and encoder mode set to 1. When I turn the chuck by hand, the position in HAL view rises by 1 for every 1 revolution of the chuck, but if I turn the chuck in the opposite direction, it carries on increasing and not count down. Is this correct? My encoder is an incremental Omron E6B2-CWZ6C. I am using a prallel port BOB (blue). Nema32 stepper motors and can control my spindle speed via the VFD (Bosch)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, in fact I have been considering this exact business. I looked for a local apprenticeship, but couldn't find anyone doing this kind of work locally. A guy on youtube has some great videos. It fits my interests and skills - I wonder how I could find my chances of getting customers. While I do not have a large truck, I can certainly factor that into the costs. If anyone here is involved in this kind of business please let me know the pros and cons.

I should've clarified: while I'm currently in the Eastern US, I didn't mean to ask others to tell me about the market in my area (I feel like that would be asking you to do my homework); I just meant I would like to know how to research the market in my area - what should I be looking for (assets, pitfalls, etc).

And yes, i also think Remora can do 1 encoder from what i read about it, so you might ask in their topic if anyone can help add more.
Might also want to check the hal2udp project on github, it has no encoders but should be fairly easy to add them as it uses ESP32.
