Hi everyone,
The task is to upgrade a Mazak VQC 15-40 to LinuxCNC and I did get to a interesting problem.
The machine use MR-S amplifiers witch seems not to have any analog input. It only has has a BUS-LINK and a hex rotary switch to select the bus address.

Is three a way of interfacing this amplifier with LInuxCNC?

Thank You,
Razvan

without obtaining the manual or finding more information, regarding the amps , it would be a needle in a haystack
lets see if anyone knows more , although with some information it would probably be a requirement to write a driver

does this link match the servos , as it does seem to have analog capability at first look

Hello,

I have MR-S manual , unfortunately there is nothing written in the manual regarding the protocol there.

J7-pin 6 AN: Analog input terminal (used only for testing).
I will test it to see if it moves . As far as I remember it does require the initialization from NC to start.

Ha, that's a whole 8085/8086 like bus with differential signalling
probably possible to interface if you had a technical manual (with register map etc)

whether its worth the effort is debatable

I have two options it seems.
Use the Argon driver with the actual HC83S permanent magnet AC motors if they tune normaly or change the motors and the drivers with MR-J2S series , 750W type servo/amplifier pair.
The MR-J2S, 750W motors have the same flange and are half in length.
I have both options in the workshop , I am unhapy trowing away three pairs of MR-S 1kW motor/amplifier that are dual closed loop with addon card for 5 micron resolution. Both motors and ballscrews have 5000ppr encoders .

I guess is depends on how soon you want the system working
how much you enjoy hardware hacking (technical manuals would make a big difference here)
and how much your time is worth

I just aquired a tool with the MR-S servo amps, It appears there isn't hope for using these amplifiers? What have others done to drive good (HA80c-s) servos? Will I need to swap out the spindle drive (Freqrol FR-SF) too?
