7i96 connection issues

trying to connect to the 7i96 and hitting some road block.  i am new to linux so limping along.

first is is i select "edit connections" and nothing happens

second in tommylight's setup i enter in terminal i enter
ssiron@debian:/$ apt-get install network-manager network-manager-gnome
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?

i believe i am in the root but it does not work




 

That was extremely helpful. thank you I think the network manager is not installed. so i got figure that one out as it would be nice to have the interface. regardless apreciate the assist.

thanks tommylight but i believe i have to install networkmanager - i am still working throught it.

BigJohnT i am having a difficult time getting throught these steps. I got it loaded on a laptop but running on target machine is proving I am not so briliant.

i can not get past loading wget or Gdebi

this is the type of error i get.
sudo apt-get install gdebi
Reading package lists... Done
