I am at a impass with my lathe retrofit, either I buy a pair of used glentek brushed DC drives, the only thing out there with the proper current handling for my axis motors, or I yank the motors and go with chinese AC servos.

how reliable are the glentek drives ? how reliable have chinese ac servos been ? I intend on running this machine hard for 10-12 hrs a day, I am leaning towards the glentek drives.

What voltage and current handling do your motors require?
AMC has some reasonably large DC drives avalable (up to 250amp peak).
I think the Glenteks are reasonably reliable, but anything real old is going to have a question mark? Glentek still makes new DC brush motor drives.

FYI - Copley Xenus series can do brushed servos with or without resolvers up to 20A continuous with single-phase 240VAC input.

Sounds like you got some nice drives though.
