Hi,
I am looking for an modern affordable upgrade to Siemens Simoreg 6RA26/6RA80 for driving DC axis motors of up to 10kW. DC motors are rated 80A@100V to 45A@200V (field 0.5A@500V)

The driver should be controlled in analogue velocity mode (+/- 10V velocity signal).

Are there any “simple” affordable units on the market?

I am thinking about upgrading the machine to linuxcnc down the line but first would need to replace the DC drivers from 70s/80s but I am a bit stuck as to what is the best way to go about this - Should I refurbish drivers from 70s and probably face the decline of available spare parts or modernize, but for now can’t find any “plug&play” solution.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Depends what "affordable" means .... 10kW is not a little asian motor at 1 or 2 dollars .... aftyer these if machinery was '80 year old think you check max torque Nm requested from machine and max velocity .... after these maybe you can choose a modern AC servo drive .... but nothing less than 4000usd ... after these you can choose ethercat or mesa board for control it. Here on forum there are some seller of drive and motors .... take in mind transportation cost .... 100Kg of servo drive kit can be expansive .... so maybe is your convenience refurbish your motor and drive on your land. In these case calculator is your friend ;)) good new year!!

you can try to to get along with these drives.
they are analog so repairable. if you know a bit of electronics and can use osciloscope you can try to  repair and connect them to linuxcnc.

Hi Betug
Have you ever check this link: gogendevices.blogspot.com/2024/01/vortex...-power-and-high.html
This drive has capabile of drive 600vdc and up to 35amps current rating. Not 80Amps but it is enough for my NC to CNC upgraded machine. You may interested in .
