Servo Enable Issue was created by Paul01
Hi everyone, I'm new to LinuxCNC and this forum, so apologies if this has been covered previously. I have searched but I'm unable to fix the issue.

I have a 7i92 + 7i77 and DMM DYN4 servo drives, and I'm having some trouble getting the drive enable to work correctly. The drive comes active high as default, and can be changed to active low which I have done. I can power up the drive and the servo rotates freely. The issue I have is when connecting it to the 7i77, and I'm not too sure what to do. I take it the ENAN+ goes to ENA (Pin 15 (see attached)) on the servo drive. And does the ENAN- go to the COM (Pin 5) on the servo drive? Or one of the GND pins on the drive? Or some other GND?

The problem I have is that as soon as I provide power to the 7i77 the drive enables as well. I obviously don't want this, I want the drive to enable after LinuxCNC has opened and I turn on the machine. Any help will be much appreciated.

Is the drive enabled with ENA unconnected?
What is the voltage input range of ENA?

The drive is disabled with ENA unconnected.
I presume the input range on ENA is max 30VDC. I've attached part of the manual with circuit examples. That's all I can find on ENA.
I'm still unsure where ENAN- should go. Is it my 24V power supply GND?

ENA+ to +24V
ENA- to Drive ENA
24V common to Drive input A common

(like the PNP example)

So this is what I have connected now:

ENA0- to Drive ENA
ENA0+ to +24V PSU
-24V PSU to Drive COM
+24V PSU to Drive +24Vin

Now the drive is constantly disabled even after I start the machine in LinuxCNC

Can you measure the voltage on the drives ENA pin (relaltive to the drives ENA input common) to see if it switches to ~ +24V when LinuxCNC is in a Machine_on state?

It's at +24V before machine on as well as when it's in a machine on state

What is the drives ENA pin voltage voltage when unconnected to the 7I77?

You probably should verify drive enable operation with a switch before connecting to the 7I77
(the 7I77 ENA+ and ENA- are basically a switch that is on when enabled)

The ENA pin is 36V when unconnected.

Yeah I'm definitely learning what I should and shouldn't be doing very quickly
