Ditching 25 pin bob

I just toasted a stepper driver and was replacing them and thought this would also be a good time to replace 25 pin bob with something better.
I have been reading up on things but at this point it's all a little overwhelming as to exactly what I need for my application. I have a 3 axis router with 2 Y, 1 X, and 1 Z stepper setup and of course limit switches and the such. Not to much you can do on a 25 pin bob. I did not want to waste money on something I dont need or that will not work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One option is the Pico Systems universal Stepper Controller. This connects via a DB-25 as a communications channel, and has 4 axes of encoder counters and 4 step generators. It can count its own step pulses when you don't have encoders.
It has 16 inputs for home and limit switches, etc. Also it has places to mount 8 solid state relays that can control spindles, vacuum, hold down, etc.

Step rates up to 250K per axis/second are supported.

This board is $250 and only needs a 12 V power supply and any SSR's you want.
It was designed specifically for LinuxCNC. So, that's one option.

What exactly do you want/hope to achieve by replacing your current Break Out Board.

More inputs and better performance. I have been looking at the mesa boards I would like to keep it below 150

Mesa is a good choice, plenty of options.
ATM I using a 7i92 with a 7i76 & 7i73.
Plenty of choices, if you can come up with a ballpark figure of the number of I\O you want someone is bound to can up with a game plan.

8 to 10 inputs and only 5 outputs. That would be all other than step and dir for the steppers. Performace of the computer is not an issue.

go for a 7i96 this gives the best option on a Standard DB1205 Replacement

I think the 7i96 will be my choice, the mesa line has a crap load of options making their line somewhat confusing for a novice. I like the pico systems also but for the difference in price and my basic requirements I think it would be overkill.

it is straight Forward yu are in the system within a hour of doing
and then one line is the same as the other
Doing by hand is mutch faster then from a Wizard
if you are within standard parameters saying XYZ
