Any thoughts on how to control 4 motors on a z-axis as in the machine in the picture?

www.3dprintingmedia.network/wp-content/u...79B30-1832x1374.jpeg

forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuratio...ltiple-slaves#160750 has a config for 4 motors on a Z-axis but I don't believe they are also controlling XY at the same time.

2.8 allows for 2 joints per axis. How to handle 4 joints per axis with a 3 axis platform that with only 1 motor per axis and would normally use simple kinematics?

Have a look at a tandem axis in hal add stepgens or pids and feedback as any other joint/axis, then in the ini file under the Z axis section add all 4 joints. Also in the ini file under the display ( not sure this is needed but it is there) section add XYZZZZ and same for traj section, and edit the number of joints.
That should work.

Agree, I don't think there is any limit to the number of joints that can be assigned to an axis, other than the maximum total number of joints available (16).

Looks like a fun machine. You should share some of your creations, once you've perfected it.

I did not think there was any limit to the number of joints (motors) on a single axis. Certainly none of the docs for 2.8 say its limited to two joints.

It was just the way it was talked about that 2.8 now supports gantries that use 2 motors, when in fact it supports more than just 2.
