Do I measure it with ground on TB1 (like I would power on TB1)? If so, an enabled empty output pin reads 0V.

I was planning to separate the vfield (200 pin with 24 volt) and vlogic (204 pin with 24 volt) power on 7i77, so the 7i77 cannot in any way output 24 volt in any output until get out of estop and the machine is on.

But this is not good thing for the health of 7i77, as PCW said.

You can do this but it would need a separate 24V supply (and switch its primary power)

Yes measure from TB1.8 ( note you should remove the I/O connector to measure 7I84
outputs as the screw does not reliably contact the output pin unless tightened )

Why the Meanwell 24V PSU? The MAHO has three 24VDC buses?

I power the 7i77 and the 7i84 from the 24VDC Bus 204 (+) /201 (gnd) as this is the bus which is always powered. The other two 24VDC buses only power up once E-Stop is released.

As you can see I chained the 204 to both the two field power connectors on the 7i84.

One issue I has was that my 28A1 Relay panel had a bad contact on that bottom row of connectors. I had random failures where the MESA boards wouldn't power up. I traced it to the green terminal block at the bottom of the board which has the terminal 204 connection. Pulled, cleaned the contact and re-seated it, and haven't had any issues with that since.

That can't be your issue though, as that should take done both 7i77 and 7i84. I think you have a config issue with your 7i84. Can you see it's I/O pins in the HALshow? If you put you voltmeter on outpin pins and command a state change, can you see the switch in voltage?

Okay, I took off the connector, set output 15 to true and measured it against TB1-8. It reads 0V. This is using just halcmd, with loardrt hostmot2, then loardrt hm2_pci.

Mark, because to a large extent I don't really understand what I'm doing. I thought you took that 24V power from the disconnected pendant terminal block, and since I thought I wanted to keep it I decided I'd just buy a second PSU. I have very little wiring experience and wasn't sure how to connect to these buses (also b/c I can't read these diagrams very well).

That will not work as a test, you need to launch LinuxCNC and then run halcmd
( This means you may need to unlink the pin first )

I've found with these configs that if something isn't spelled right, the controller won't start. My syntax has to be correct, the pin address is correct, perhaps the operating mode of the 7i84 is wrong? But the thing is, when I came here today in the morning, everything worked like yesterday. I set out to: switch the axes X/Y to control correctly and troubleshoot my Z encoder not working. So I didn't change anything in the config files, I was mostly busy with wiring (creating a proper terminal for the red cables in the encoder, switching the drive wires for X and Y). And then I found that while the other issues were resolved, I suddenly couldn't have the drives latch on.

Well, it still reads 0V. I'm using an unconnected output that doesn't serve any purpose in my setup.

To have the card output 24V power through 7i74's port 5, can it be set to:
sserial_port_1=00000000? or should it be sserial_port_1=00001000?

EDIT: answered my own question, it doesn't change anything for the measurement.
