I am using a pci-e parrel port card. Is that a problem like with drivers? I know the card came with a driver CD, but I know in windows I can use device manager for drivers, but what about in linux?????? Or do i not need drivers.

Ok. So I downloaded the .iso, and on YT people say you need the board pin out.

Well, I opened up the controller box and I have a JP-382C board.

What is the pin out I tell linux CNC to use.

What is the Step Time, Step Space, I should use? Defaults of 5050, 5050, 500, 500 sound good ??

Also, I heard I need to know stuff about the leadscrew pitch and pulley teeth value. Anyone know those values for the 3040 cnc. If you dont, thats ok, I'll try and guess with calipers.

Do you have LinuxCNC installed and working OR do you have LinuxCNC downloaded and written to a USB flash drive and can boot the PC from it?
If you can boot Linux, open a terminal and type
sudo lspci -v
then look for parallel port or parport in the results, if it is there, you can continue to setting up the machine.
Timings should be 5000 for step and 20000 for direction .

Seems like a standard pinout, if it works with parallel port.

Not here.

You should be able to find that out from an existing Mach config or google a bit harder.

for the parport base adress, in terminal when I run the hardware discover command, I get

I/O ports at d010
I/O ports at d000

Should I type in 0xd010 in stepconf. I need the 0x part right, or just d010. Thanks

EDIT: never mind got linux cnc working. At first, the motors just went brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, but no moving. Had to invert the axis and now it moves.... yay!
