After I got the new BOB I tried all modes. Good to know SPP is best... not sure what you mean with X-mode?

It is possible that the parallel port was damaged when you ruined the other BOB.

Oke I thought the BOB protects the PC via the octocouplers....

Tomorrow my PC arrives, hope it was a PC problem and I can finally get my machine to work

Most cheap BOB's do not have optocouplers at all, just some buffering or transceivers.

Linuxcnc's parallel port driver has 3 possible modes of operation out, in and X. Out has 12 outputs and 5 inputs. In has 4 outputs and 13 inputs. And X has 8 outputs and 9 inputs. X-mode may not work with all parallel ports, and it must be configured for SPP,. I've set up a few machines that used it. The biggest downside to X-mode, is that there are no breakout boards on the market that support it. So you either have to roll your own or run without.

YESSSSSS! It works!

I just recieved my 'new/old' PC, attatched everything like normal.... and it works... finally!
This PC (Core2duo E8500) is older than my other one (JQ1900B-ITX) but it seems to be faster... and I just plugged in my SSD and that works too right out of the box (thanks to Linux)

Everyone thanks for the help!

I finally got my machine working, but now I need to tweak settings like max velocity and acceleration. How can I best tweak them?

Increase them until you get scared, then back off a bit :-)

Best to hand edit where they are set in the ini file.

But for testing and tweaking there is a way to temporarily change their values without restarting Linuxcnc after every change using the "ini.x" halpins and the setp command. Use halshow to look up the exact pin name, then you can type the setp command, pin name and value in the halcommand line at the bottom.
