Different preview in local X11 and remote vcXsrv. Loose machine coordinates.

I need to use my LinuxCNC machine as headless, and have been using X11 over SSH , and for the longest time I think I messed up the configuration to loose the displayed coordinates in the preview tab.

However I just finished a clean 2.7.0 install from a fresh download, and did the setup from scratch with stepconf wizzard - same result.
(same result after updating to 2.7.14)

Suggestions on how to fix this, or better options for running the machine headless? I previsouly tried VNC but felt the performance was much better with x11.

Whoa, that was a rabbit hole to get xrdp installed on the fresh wheezy install from the live cd. Would I be better off updating to a more recent linux version by following some of the forum threads instead of the Getting started guide?

xrdp wasn't able to launch linuxcnc at all
Code:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 3 (X_GetWindowAttributes) Resource id in failed request: 0xffffffff Serial number of failed request: 653 Current serial number in output stream: 654

full output below

xrdp seems to be a server that implements the rdp protocol, but uses vnc to access the xorg client. (however it can't access the local session without running vnc for that as well)

will try the stretch image and see later this week. have a blank partition ready for dual booting

Hmm, I use X over ssh and do not see the problem you have there

(ssh -Y andypugh@harrison.local)

It looks like a graphics rendering problem of some sort.

What OS is the "viewing" PC running? Also Linux, at a guess?

Sorry should have included that information!

Windows 10, putty/plink and VcXsrv.

This keeps repeating in the ssh window, so I presume its tryring to update the coordinates, but fails for some reason.
