Rigid Tapping / Spindle Synchro

So I have some time now to solve the next thing now that the machine has been in production for several months. I cannot seem to get the G33.1 working at all with the encoder in mode 0. If I change it to mode 1, it starts moving down, but the encoder setting is all wrong and it jumps around as well. So full quad. seem to be the best.

Perhaps I am missing something in the HAL that someone can catch.

I have attached HAL and INI files.

Thanks for any help or pointers!

If you change from mode 1 to mode 0 there are a couple more things that need to be correct:

1. Direction must be right (verify by rotating spindle by hand and watching spindle position)
2. Scaling must be right (mode 0 encoder scale will be 4X mode 1 scale)
3. B encoder input must work

They do all work!

Edit: You were right, it was counting the wrong way. I changed the encoder to -1024 and now it works. However it goes to the bottom of the "hole" (air tapping) and just stop!

Is G33.1 only a one way motion? Then it needs to have another G33.1 that goes back? Am I correct about this?

Does spindle reverse work?

It does work in CW and CCW if that is the question.

Could it be of the abs I use so the spindle speed shows positive that it's screwing something up in G33 reversing?

Ok, it works! I was just running it too low (around 80rpm) and the PID there kind of struggles so it wasn't getting the right speed. Ran it at 500RPM and works like a charm.

On another note, it would be great to be able to tune the spindle PID from the inside the program as well!

Thanks as always for your quick replies PCW!

Try this to tune your PID on the fly

linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man1/sim_pin.1.html

it will open a seperate window and allow you to change the pins you specify in the ini file
