Would appreciate help with spindle connection... was created by pferrick
Hi everyone-
I'm trying to get my HY Series VFD / spindle going via a 5i25/7i76, and while I've read through a lot of posts with successful connections, I have yet to figure out why mine isn't working.
Here's a page from the manual.
With no connection to the 7i76, when I jumper FWD (or REV) to GND I get appropriate rotation...so far so good.
I've tried connecting it this way:
SPINDLE ENA- ==> GND
SPINDLE ENA+ ==> FWD
and also the reverse. One way does nothing (I'm using GMOCCAPY, by the way) and the other rotates the spindle all the time, no matter what state the spindle control in linuxcnc is in.
I generated my config.hal file with PnCconf, so it has the default signal/component connections. [I haven't yet tried the direction inputs to the VFD, or the speed control input. I'm thinking that maybe I should get on/off working first!]
thanks very much in advance,
Patrick

Can you post your hal and ini files?
Sounds like the hm2_5i25.0.7i76.0.0.spinena is not getting set true
(have you commanded spindle on via gcode or mdi?)

Its not surprising that the spindle control does not work since there is no
connection between the spindle-enable signal (which come from motion.spindle-on)
and hm2_5i25.0.7i76.0.0.spinena hardware control pin
It looks like the spindle was not set up properly when pncconf was run

Hi Peter-
That was exactly the problem, and it's now fixed. And a likely reason that I didn't manage to get things set up correctly with pncconf is that my version is called BETA 1 - and makes reference to EMC2! So I'm going to guess that there's a newer version that DOES have a spindle setup section...!
Thank you very much for the explanation.

Well, I'm really closing in on getting the spindle set up with my 7i76. I'm only lacking speed control, and I am probably missing a key line in my hal file.
I am applying +5V to TB4-pin 3, and connecting TB4-pin 1 to ground, expecting spinout (TB4-pin 2) to vary from 0-5V which will make my VFD very happy. So I put this in:
net spindle-vel-cmd => hm2_5i25.0.7i76.0.0.spinout
but no go yet. I have a feeling that the latest version of Pncconf would get this pretty much correct, but I'm trying to hold off upgrading everything. I'm running 2.7.0 by the way. Plus I'm learning more and more HAL all the time, thanks to the apparently infinite patience of folks on the forum...! Many, many thanks!
