Can a PLC run a random tool changer?

Sorry a little off topic,

Can a PLC do all of the work of random tool changing in itself?

Example, the PLC only taking in the commanded tool wanted and then having the pocket and tool table stored
in the PLC?

So when the signal is sent to the PLC it handles all of the tool change, picking the right pocket for the tool , advancing the tool barrel , running the swing arm , unclamp and clamp the spindle and then just sends back a signal that the tool change is completed.

Thanks for any input...

I'm sure it can be done (that is how many of the big CNC controls do it.) But Linuxcnc can do random tool changers on it's own without resorting to programming it into a PLC.

I've never set up a tool changer. I'd start by reading the pertinent sections of the manual. Then search the forum and mailing list archives. I know I've read related threads.

ATC is more Fun to Build on the Hardware Side
then actually going to control it .

Retrofit might be different as Safty switches junp in and give you some headbang

There is always Help around here
