Lathe threading with single phase encoder? was created by HalaszAttila
Hello,
we retrofit an Emco 220 lathe with Linuxcnc + 7i76 card.
The encoder on the spindle has just one phase (not quadrature) 100ppr, with index signal.
My question is, that can I use this encoder for threading or not?
For threading method, important for Linuxcnc to know the direction of spindle?

100 pulses + index is more than adequate for lathe threading.
It can't be used for rigid tapping.
You just need to set the encoder to "counter mode" so that it will count without a B phase.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationDont mean to hijack, but im trying to find what I need to turn threads using LinuxCNC and stepper feeds on my lathe. Is it just a matter of adding a 1ppr sensor and sensor disk on my spindle? How is it set up in linux?
would this type sensor work, or what would i need?
