Good idea. I booted the Brix yesterday and it still has windows installed. I thought I had LinuxCNC installed, but maybe gave up before I got that far. I'll burn a Debian boot ISO onto a USB stick tonight and see what happens. If it is too painful, I'll use the PC in the MAHO to install it.

Is there any advantage in Mint verse Debian?

Not really. Mint is much nicer to use if its a desktop but in your case embedded in a control panel, I think I would take the easy way out and install the Stretch ISO.

I am having Deja-vu here. It boots fine from USB, but the debian graphical installer, after the language questions, tries to access the non-existant CD-rom drive, and I cant get passed that point.
Same thing happens with the text based installer.
Any ideas, please?

Thats strange. I would check the boot order in the BIOS and make sure it does not look there but clutching at straws. I've never seen it do that.

Probably your guilty conscience for tempting me into buying a GB Brix
When I finish eating icecream, I'll pull the USB and reinsert it. I found that here...
