What is FPGA in mesa boards and IO pins.
What are the uses of them.
I cannot find clear meaning of them.

mesa uses spatan Chips
FPGA is a gate array that is user programable
so you can design your pwm your i/O direction and combinate them to timers
in Linuxcnc they are used for "HARDWARE" Stepgens that is not times by the PC

benefit is you send not individuell commands to eatch pin insted of cumminicate high speed >4M bit with the Fpga and let this do the timing

so you reatch a near 10times higher accoracy and speed on servo system

Like 100000 latency value computer run with mesa board will give reasonable latency value
