Choosing correct daughtercard for 7I96S

Hi,

My CNC will run six motors, xyyzbc. 
7I96S can run up to 5 motors so I need a daughtercard, I'm thinking about 7I78. 
Are they compatible with LinuxCNC when used together? 
Can the DB25M-IDC26 connector be used to connect between those two?

Perhaps a different combination would be better, such as the 7i76e? I don't need two daughter cards.

You can also use a cheap BOB.
Or wire the drive directly to IDC26 header on the 7i96S, but care must be taken as those are sensitive pins.
And prefferably, use shielded cable.

I'm not an expert, so I prefer to pay a high price for correct and high-quality parts.

Is the combination I mentioned above possible, or is something else recommended? 

Sorry, never used a 7i78 and on the phone...
7i76 should work but it is an overkill as it has 5 step/dir, spindle with encoder, 32 in and 16 out, etc.
