The 5V connection is not required (this is just for powering stand-alone encoders)

You might try the input test I suggested (this does require single ended jumpering)

OK. Have done this and grounding each of these inputs produces no response from any of the pins a, b or index in halshow, on any of encoder channels 00, 01, or 02.

We also have a problem with the smart serial ports in this config (via the 7i42ta): if I understand correctly, the 7i42ta pins used for the first sserial instance should be 21 and 22 (IO 45 and 46 in the firmware/readhmid result).

At the moment, whether or not "sserial_port_0=0xxxxxxx" is added to the hm2_eth line, all 7i42TA pins behave as GPIO - they can be set/cleared in halshow.

If the sserial line is added and any of its pins linked to a function, lcnc errors on startup.

Huh, thought I'd posted again last thing last night but it doesn't seem to have taken.

We tried the 7i80HD-25 card with the -25 version of the firmware you sent, and with this in the system, the encoder ports are being read as expected (apart from how Yaskawa servopack C-channel vs Z-channel isn't as expected at all).

I would be grateful if you could send the firmware for that card including: 6x analogue servo, 6x encoder, 2x pktuart and 2x sserial modules, for 7i80HD-25, 7i48, 7i52 combination.

Thanks in advance!

At the moment, whether or not "sserial_port_0=0xxxxxxx" is added to the hm2_eth line, all 7i42TA pins behave as GPIO - they can be set/cleared in halshow.

This is expected behaviour: if a sserial device is not found on a particular channel, its I/O pins revert to GPIO

I would be grateful if you could send the firmware for that card including: 6x analogue servo, 6x encoder, 2x pktuart and 2x sserial modules, for 7i80HD-25, 7i48, 7i52 combination.

I'll try and get to this sometime today or tomorrow.

Attachment not found

The PKTUART pins are on the two RS-485 capable 7I52 channels (the ones with TX Enables)

Thanks. Now waiting on delivery of a 7i52 to test those serial ports, no luck via 7i42ta.

However, I've had trouble from the start with the 7i48 card - the 7i80HD-16 wouldn't read its encoders at all, and the 7i80HD-25 had some trouble, using encoder.00 to .03.

Last night we tried using the 7i48's encoder.04 channel with one axis at a time, and found that all 3 worked perfectly. Then we tried adding all 3 axes, at which point no aspect of the 7i48 works at all: the +15V, -15V and 3.3V lights come on, but there is no +/-10V from any AOUT port, and no encoders are read through any channel.

If a cascading fault is possible (caused perhaps by the one attempt with a 24v encoder) then I seem to have bricked my board, though I don't know if that's consistent with channel .04 having worked perfectly for half an hour of testing last night.

Please would you remake the above firmware for the 7i80HD-16? I would like to try to rule out the fpga board as the thing that's broken here, before we order another 7i48. I'd note that the reason I tried the 24v encoder was that the 7i48 wasn't reading encoder info at all to start with, though when I switched to the HD-25 it appeared to partially work, making me thing that the HD-16 firmware may have had an error.

If you have any other suggestions I'd be grateful to hear them.

Perhaps should change the subject line now, since my hardware has changed...

We have now installed a 7i97T/7i74/7i84U combo and have the machine up
and running. I would still like to use the mesa modbus component to
talk to our several modbus I/O boards and the spindle.

To enable this, I'd be grateful if you would make a firmware for this
combination:

7i97T with pktuart/modbus on the TB4's RS485 port, and a 7i74 on the
P2 expansion connector with pktuart/modbus on channel 7 and 7x SSERIAL
ports on channels 0-6

if possible?
