Yaskawa CPCR-MR 054 wiring help

Hi guys,

I'm helping a friend out on his lathe upgrade which has two CPCR-MR-054 G Servopack drives in it.

The problem being that the two available drive manuals TSE-C717-12G.pdf and TSE-C717-13E.pdf reference the "C" and the "K" revisions of the drives, not the "G".

I spoke to a Yaskawa tech today and while was super helpful, he said pretty much "Yup, our bad". Sigh...

The G revision of the board is different in that it has two 20 pin JAE 2x10 connectors.

Does anyone have one of these old dinosaurs? And if so, could you do me a favor and post the pinout please?

Thanks!,

John

So I contacted Mr. Sato at Sato Electronics (satoelectronics.com) and he had the drawing and was kind enough to send it to me. I'm posting it here in case others might find it helpful.

I got ambitious and drew up what I feel is important in QCAD. Feel free to use as you wish.

Well, I'd like to think that I had *something* to do with it. :)

And it wouldn't be a drawing of mine unless there was at least one mistake that needed correcting. I never disappoint...

So I'll include the updated drawing (DXF and PDF).

While I am here, I'll share some of what I found out about the drive:

Pins 1-2 and 1-19 are for the -10 to +10 volt speed reference input.

There is no "Drive enable" signal per se, but opening up the -15 and +15 volt supply stops the drive (connected to 3-2, 3-5, 3-6, 3-3). However, it occurs to me that I would be better off by opening the +24 volt signal on 3-1 when I don't want the drives enabled. That would require rewiring the overtravel limits, but I think that it is worth it since I have no idea as to the long term effects of cutting the power to the -+15 volt rails on the drive.

FUX is probably an alarm relay since it is paralleled with the next axis 2-5 (2-16) and 2-6 (2-15).

The direction overtravel is stopped by dropping out the power to 2-3 (2-18) in the positive direction, and by dropping out 2-4 (2-17) in the negative direction. I paralleled these relays with the inputs going to the Mesa 7i77 card, and the coils of the relays conveniently act as a "pull up" resistor when the drive is over traveled in that direction. This means that the input will be high when in overtravel. Once I break the 3-1 line to disable the drive permit, I will lose these inputs. So I'll pull them off of the Servopack connector and run them directly. No big deal.

2-7 (2-14) and 2-8 (2-13) is the drives thermal overtemp input (I presume).

1-3 and 1-18 is an open collector transistor output for displaying drive speed, it could be run into your controller. Be sure to use an appropriate load to prevent shorting out the transistor.

1-6 (1-15) and 1-7 (1-14) are alarm contacts (or permissives, I haven't checked as of yet) in common with 1-8 (1-13) signaling if the drive is in overtravel (or not).

I think that's about it, if you have any issues feel free to ask (and a PM wouldn't hurt since I didn't get notified of your response - probably due to me not clicking the checkbox :) ).

Hope this helps!

John

For any of you still running these old drives, I have 2 known good top boards for these drives, Yaskawa doesn't fix them any more, parts are not available. PM me if they could be of use to you.

Hello. I have carefully looked at the circuit diagram. I am testing with reference to the circuit diagram you uploaded with yaskawa cpcr-mr154g. There is one critical problem. When I input pin 2-3 and 2-4 to dc0v and input pin 3-1 to 24V+ and then turn on the power, the speed accelerates even without any input to the speed reference (pin 1-2, 1-19). I need to use this drive for PID control, so control through the speed reference is absolutely necessary. Please help me.

I solved the problem mentioned above. It was caused by connecting the tacho in reverse. The circuit diagram attached above seems to be correct. However, I gave up on applying it to my machine. The drive is too big and there is no space to install it.
