Okuma mv45 spindle problem was created by aventtini
Hi guys i have a new project , that looks complicated . I have a spindle that has 2 windings on it and i need to chamge the inveter as is damaged . I has search but seems that no one make this kind of inverter. Any indeea what i can use its 22kw 3x220v ac

The picture shows wiring for a normal 3 phase motor.
The only motors in use with two winding are single phase Induction motors with a capacitor, and they only go up to 2.2KW in Europe.
My guess is that it is a normal 3 phase motors, after all they exist since Nikola Tesla invented them.

It has 12k rpm on low torque , and second coil is for low rpm untill 3000rpm , this is direct drive meaning in low rpm no power

The "Spindle motor changeover unit" rewires the motor
for "Wye" or "Delta" connections for low and high speed operation
respectively.

You would need to retain that part if you replace the spindle drive
VFD.

One tricky thing is that the VFD would require different settings
for the different motor connections. Some smarter VFDs
may have this capability (profile switching) but I'm not sure.

Also of course you cannot change the wiring contactors when in operation
(unless you like buying new VFDs)

I think this unit works on firmware for communication. That means i cant controll it. This spindle must have 2 parameter for motor and a 2 outputs for change over unit that can also be a contactor. I have used lots of types of inverters but never seen one like this.

Pretty sure the box shown is just a couple contactors
that could be reused even if you had to throw out the control
circuitry. I dont see any reason you could not use a standard
VFD and the contactor box to change the motor wiring.

The main issue is that the VFD setup parameters would be
different in Delta vs Wye connections. I wonder if these
parameters could be set via MODBUS?

Really need VFD expert here...

Edit: a little googling shows that some VFDs have this capability (multiple setups)
and can change setup based on digital inputs

i think i over think to much maybe , we need a inverter that can suport 2 motors , like overhead crane. The inverter must have 2 sets of parameters , and 2 outputs . For the input signal we can limit 0-5v one coil 5-10 second coil . Now the fun part is what brand of inverter can do this ?

inside de box , also it says 130a for a 22kw drive si not right.

Why two outputs? All you need is to be able to switch between two sets of parameters and then two contactors to choose the respective winding configuration. There are many VFD's that can switch between 2 different parameter settings. Often this has to be done through the RS485 interface.

As an example, some Trane VFDs have 4 sets of setup parameters you
can switch between based on digital inputs (or RS-485). Just need
to read some manuals...
