Hello.
I want to build an impact raster engraver.
X-Y axis are with belt transmision and Z with small ballscrew trivial kinematics.
Z axis is only for correcting height anomalies in engraving material.
The impact hammer is done by a small stepper motor that has coupled a small arm
that has attached a small diamond needle at the end.
For example when load an one bit dithered bmp image file and set engraving speed for example 100mm/s the motion must be constant speed inside engraving area (acceleration-deceration must done outside engraving area) and synchronized with needle impacts.
How this can be done with mesa card?

Impact is way to slow, and it is not that simple, the impact stepper also needs speed control that has to be dependent on the depth of the picture.
I made them with a DC motor and spindle and another DC motor for pressure, lately i use small digital 3 phase motors for pressure and DC motor for spindle.
Have a look:

Is not too slow and gives far better quality than rotating diamond bit method
Something new about integration in linuxcnc of datapainter mesa firmware ?

This does sound like a job for the datapainter. I don't know if anyone has made that work with the LinuxCNC drivers yet?
