Freecad was created by grump
Hi guys at last I can contribute something.
Sorry if it has already been covered but I am so overjoyed in my success I want to share it.
I have been battling to install Freecad on my newly installed system without joy until I discovered the backports.
The Wheezy backport info is wrong and it's too long to go into, suffice to say a bug report has been logged.

For those of you who want to use Freecad and install it on your Linuxcnc machine this is how I managed to do it.
Be sure to leave the de in the line I tried uk and us to no avail and discovered the German repository seems to be the only port that works.

Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list
ftp.de.debian.org/debian/dists/wheezy-backports/
deb ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main

Open a terminal and type or copy & paste:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install freecad

Wish you all success, let me know how you get on.
Any issues please report back here and I will go through my history to see what else I may have done but I am pretty sure this is a fix.

BE WARNED!!!!!
If you follow this path delete the repository after you have installed Freecad.
The next update / dist-upgrade it will install Debian 8 and wipe out your prized cnc options DAMHIKT????????
Back to the drawing board and yet another fresh install of Linuxcnc for me.

The pc in my shed worked excellent with the above and still does so I maybe have done something more to it than I have mentioned above.
I tried it indoors on spare pc after posting this and disaster befell the poor thing.
I don't really know why I want to do this as I use F-engrave for most of my needs and my cad skills are rusty to say the least.
I tried the Linux cad programs many years ago and compared to Autocad it was like using the Etch-A-Sketch.
They have come a long way since then and I just want to play and compare, simply because I can.
Thanks for the encouragement, I'll have another try later it seems to be a dependencies issue.

OK guys here is the latest news.
Either I did something wrong and I am sure I did, or the linux community are super fast at rectifying issues.

This is proven to work on 4 PC's I have now tried without a glitch, the repository back ports carry freecad with all the dependencies.
Add this line to your etc/apt/sources.list:
For those who don't know how to this can be done in gui from the settings in update manager or via the synaptic installer.

deb http.debian.net/debian wheezy-backports main

Open a terminal / shell and type or copy / paste the following:

sudo apt-get update

Then type or copy / paste:

sudo apt-get -t wheezy-backports install freecad

Hope it helps some of you, it has me. I can now brush up on my cad skills albeit on a Etch-A-Sketch.
