To install GEDIT, apt-get wants to REMOVE some items

It seems to me that either the GIT, or the DPKG or somewhere installed 'libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev' in order for me to compile linuxcnc.

After the dust settled and a successful compile -- I found GEDIT was removed.

Now when I try 'apt-get install gedit' it notifies me with this:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
libgl1-mesa-swx11 libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev

There are other mesa graphics files being left alone, so the question is: do I need these to compile or run linuxcnc?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, I'm writing some components and need to be able to compile often. Also, if anyone has any other SIMPLE editor ideas, please let me know.

If you are on Wheezy then installing gedit tries to bring in a _lot_ of gnome.

I don't very much like Mousepad, but it might be better to look around for a text editor with fewer dependencies than gedit.

Maybe one of these? itsfoss.com/notepad-alternatives-for-linux/

Thanks for the answer. So I can assume I must keep those particular mesa-swx11 files?

I don't actually know. They look like software OpenGL, it is entirely possible that you are not using them.
