Rigid tapping requirements was created by JohnnyCNC
Hi All,
I just converted a Sieg X3 mill using a 5i25+7i76 and I want to do rigid tapping. Right now I trying to figure out how to go about adding the hardware for the spindle signal pulses that I will need. What I have not been able to determine from reading the posts is what would be the ideal PPR for rigid tapping?
Thanks
John

You can basically use as high as you like, but you probably dont want much lower than 100 PPR
( 400 counts per turn quadrature ) for rigid tapping. For rigid tapping you need a quadrature encoder with an index.

Thanks PCW.
I see a lot of 100,200,1024 encoders and I was thinking that more might not necessarily mean better I think I'll look for a 200 PPR quadrature with index.
