Just a follow-up for anyone else...

I set it up as described above, no issues, and it is working perfectly. :woohoo:

I have the 7i76D board which SINKS current instead of providing voltage... so here is the difference...

7i76 (standard)
Outputs
0 V = OFF
24v = Active
Inputs
FLOAT (0v) = OFF
24v = Active
[strike]FLOAT (24v) = OFF
0v (shorted) = Active[/strike]
Corrections by PCW

7i76D (Sinking)
Outputs
Floating (24v) = OFF
0v (Ground) = Active
Inputs
FLOAT (0v) = OFF
24v = Active

Now onto programming and other things like the GPIO... another thread.

Jerry

Thanks for the help everyone! :laugh:

What is the 7i76D? I have a 6i25(5i25) / 7i76 setup and I know of the 7i76E but I couldn't find the 7i76D listed on Mesa's site. I was going to try and offer help but wasn't sure about that exact board.

The 7I76 and 7I76D _inputs_ are identical, ( +input = true ) only the outputs are different

See corrections below by PCW...
[strike]Not really... on the 7i76 you connect a switch between the GROUND and the INPUT. Closing the switch registers a change. If you do that with the 7i76D nothing happens.
[/strike]
For the 7i76D you connect the switch between FIELD POWER and INPUT. Closing the switch brings the input off GROUND above the 9-ish volt threshold to register.

I just proved that with my breadboard setup.

That's not correct, the 7I76 and 7I76D have _identical_ input circuits, you must supply a input voltage > 60% of VFIELD to be registered as true (and below 40% of VFIELD to be registered as false)

Huh... I thought only the 7i76D used sinking for input.
I thought the 76i67 was like a parallel port... floating high and being pulled low to register.

For clarity, I corrected the posts above, with credit to you.

Thanks,
jerry

I went back a looked at www.mesanet.com and still couldn't find the 7i76D anywhere but it is on the store page as the link you provided shows. I would have guessed that the "D" indicated DIN rail mounting but in reading the description it also means sinking outputs as PCW stated. Learn something new every day.

A friend of mine found it and asked me about 7i76D but for the life of me i could not find it. The next day went with him for a coffee and sure enough he found it again.
Back on topic: a little reading before making misleading statements should be on order. Several posts back there where some other misleading statements about documentation.
