Hello
I know this belongs on a Linux newbie forum but it does pertain to cnc machining.
My old 1985 mill has a DynaPath System 10 cnc control, yes I know this is museum material. It does have a serial port that can be used to upload and down load programs at a whopping 1200 baud. I have used my old Windoze system with Hyperterminal to communicate with the control successfully in the past. Now that I am trying to banish Windozes from my life what are my options using Linux? My present shop computer runs LinuxCNC under LMDE-2 with a home compiled rt. I also have Virtual Box working on this machine because the feeds and speed program I use is not available under Linux. So I know I can fall back to a "Windoze" solution if need be. My hardware does have a native serial port available but I have been using an USB to serial converter under Windoze.

You are wanting a Linux equivalent of the Windows "Hyperterminal"?
I think that you probably want "screen"
Something like
Some pointers here
unix.stackexchange.com/questions/22545/h...-simple-as-using-ssh

Thanks Guys
Now I know what to look for as I explorer the Linux world.
My present LMDE-2 box is used to control a plasma cutter using Mesa 7i76E and THCad cards. It works much better than the commercial system I previously had. LinuxCNC has allowed me to customize the UI and actions to suit my work flow.
