4 axis CNC lathe was created by Lumley32
new user, have searched, hopefully, I'm not covering old ground!

so, i am considering refitting a 4axis lathe XYZ and C on the spindle with something that's not from the 90's. Linuxcnc looks like a good option! but i have questions!

i would like to replace the drives with something more modern as well, are there available modern drives for 3Phase servos? including 11KW spindles?

can linuxCNC handle 4 axis lathes? including tailstock and live tooling, chuck, and tool changer?

Thanks
Rich

Hi welcome
You did right it is the best to retrofit
Linuxcnc can handle 9Axis/Joints ISO XYZABCUVW Syncronius

it is also capable of ETH connection
your servos are +-10 i gues controlled
so it may be easy to connect
look on a 7i77 Mesa here in forum
the Spindel can be 2way configurated in one mashine setup so it is C Axis and Spindle in one Part making

like here

If you can build it, LinuxCNC can control it.

But I wouldn't rush to replace the drives. You have a matched set of motors, drives and machine as a starting point. Unless the drives are starting to fail I would keep them for now.

What is your feedback type, and what control signals do the drives accept?
