The keyboard jogging is weird and not right with tandem X config.

page-up/down moves the machine in Y. and before homing......
The rest shows you cant jog before homing. I would think page-up/down would do the same but on Z instead of Y.

I don't have drivers and steppers connected, I am trying to set this up before I go onsite this weekend.

Also I am trying to home with hitting the home/limit switches. Z works fine but when I go to hit the Y the first time I hit the home switch, it goes to 0 in the display and start Y moving again, and if I hit switch again I get "joint 2 on limit switch error"

I though you weren't allowed to jog in world mode with gantry.

Prior to homing:
Code:
When operating in joint mode prior to homing, keyboard jog keys are assigned in a fixed sequence: left/right: joint0, up/down: joint1, page up/page down: joint2, left/right bracket: joint3

Ref: linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/config/ini-co...tml#_display_section
======================================================

Disallowed jogging prior to homing (joint mode):
Code:
Joint mode jogging of joints having a negative HOME_SEQUENCE is disallowed. In common gantry applications, such jogging can lead to misalignment (racking). Note that conventional jogging in world coordinates is always available once a machine is homed.
Ref: linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/config/ini-homing.html

======================================================

Workaround:
Code:
System integrators can allow joint jogging prior to homing with hal logic that switches the [JOINT_N]HOME_SEQUENCE items. This logic should also assert the motion.homing-inhibit pin to ensure that homing is not inadvertently initiated when joint jogging is enabled. ... An example simulation config (gantry_jjog.ini) that demonstrates joint jogging when using negative home sequences is located in the: configs/sim/axis/gantry/ directory.

Ref: linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/config/ini-homing.html

======================================================
For using keyboard jog keys with the axis gui before
and after homing, the most consistent
coordinate_letter-to-joint_number specification is
coordinates=xyzy.

I have all axis running homing manually. This machine has a really rigid gantry and only has one homing switch on the dual motor axis.

Can I 'home all" and have the dual motor axis home with both motors but with only one switch? Or would I have to install a switch on the other joint? This is a bigger deal, and wont be able to do it today onsite.

I'm just going to install a switch on the other joint, and that will be that.

Yes, gantries have been working that way for years, prior to the proper support offered in 2.8+
