What software for laser engraving?

hi, i add at my cnc a laser head and now the questions is:
what software you'll recommend me for engraving pictures?

For vector engraving, Inkscape:
sudo apt-get install inkscape
For raster, dmap2gcode or the built into LinuxCNC image2gcode

linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/man/man9/laserpower.9.html
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/man/man9/raster.9.html

And a simulated config using them: github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/tree/master/configs/sim/axis/laser

I don't know if LinuxCNC has any driver support for the datapainter yet.

Andy, From what i saw this is only in master (2.10) branch. Could it be incorporated into the 2.9 branch before the release?

I thought that this seemed like a good idea, but hit a snag. The raster component does not compile (in 2.9 or master) with RTAI realtime.
