1024 PPR encoders on the "other" end of ballscrews? was created by rthorntn
Hi,
Has anyone used LinuxCNC with standalone high PPR encoders on the "other" end of a ballscrew for "detection" of stalls, coupler slippage, crashes and perhaps missed steps?
I have a small "6040" CNC with NEMA24 steppers and don't have the money or inclination to replace these but I would like detection of these issues and ideally the machine pauses...
Cheers
Richard

I have used linear scales which in principle do the same as a rotary encoder in combination with stepper motors.
If you don't need to compensate for those errors, you can just watch the following error, when too large there is a problem.
