External offsets limiting jog speed

Hello,
I have linuxcnc lathe setup on a 7x14 minilathe and trying to implement an electronic leadscrew setup so I can engage a link between the spindle position and the z axis using buttons on the UI. I implemented this by enabling external offsets on the Z axis and a couple of HAL pins nets and it works well. The only trouble is enabling external offsets seems to limit all Z axis to minimum and also the DRO display becomes really confusing as it’s not showing the actual Z position but always seems to have an offset even when I zero the axis. For reference I'm doing this so I can turn the spindle by hand and have synchronized Z axis movement (very useful for turning springs since my spindle can't hold a lot of torque at very low RPMs).

Is there anyway to modify this behaviour?

In your Ini file, there is a setting to say what percentage (ratio) of the velocity and accelleration is allocated to external offsets.
If external offsets is mutually exclusive to normal motion, you could do what we do with plasma and that is double the velocity and accelarations and use a ratio of 0.5
This means both normal motion and external offset have 100% of available velocity and acceleration

Yes for now mutually exclusive, just using it to simulate a mechanical leadscrew which is essential for turning springs since the wire is already attached to the mandrel before the spindle runs…G code ops would be used for actual cutting with synchronized movement.

Great idea, thanks for the suggestion!

Is there a way to set this ratio during runtime?
