Hello everyone, running I to some problems with getting my new machines running from a pcie par port card. I got Debi to see the card, but the ports are disabled.

The card I'm using is a SIIG with netmos 9900 chipset

Ran sudo lspci -vv
Got what I expected except the [disabled] tag

I can't paste the output right now because the computer generating the output isn't networked, I'll get a usb stick and post the output that way when I can.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Two things to try and both I have found relevant on different computers.
Parport could be disabled in bios, simple fix, go to bios and enable.

Not all parport pci cards are any good or don't work with LCNC or motherboard etc.
My solution is to keep a selection of pci cards and change them till I find one that works.

I tried to install the module that came with the card, did so correctly, and have come to the conclusion that Debi simply hates this specific card ...

It's deffinately not a hardware issue, ubuntu 12 sees and can use the card just fine ... so now to get linuxCNC working on this os, fortunately there is a substantially larger ammount of non-Chinese documentation for this route

At the risk of telling you something you already know???

To find your parallel port in Linux cnc. open a shell / Terminal and type lspci -v you will get the address (a long list of script) look for the parallel controller and use the address as here in the pic. My parport details in the red box with port address in the yellow box. in my case the port being used is at 0x3008. yours will be entirely different.

First post "ran sudo lspci -vv"

Second post is the output from that.

... I just have one question, how drunk were you? XD
