The reason being the reset feature holds the real time system hostage for the amount of time it counts down and if your computer is twiddling it thumbs for more than half the time... you get the picture.

Ok I'll reduce it and see what it does. I tried 20k and then went up.

I reduced the reset to 10000

Dirhold 50000
Dirsetup 35000

Also I had an old video card lying around which was newer than the one in the machine. In reading the wiki it said that cards that shared the motherboard memory we're not recommend. I think the old card did this. With the new (old) card and disabling a bunch of stuff in the bios the service thread is at 17000 and base thread 21000.

When I used to boot up wheezy it would say bad thermal sensor and cool and quiet was on in the bios .

It runs nice at 96ipm.

On wheezy this machine is around 6000 in both threads.

What does inverting the step pin do?

If you have very large direction setup and hold times, (larger than drive specified setup and hold times + step time) probably nothing

If you have small direction setup and hold times set you may violate these timings and lose/gain steps on reversals

Inverting the step pulse is not something to do randomly, you figure out which edge
of the step pulse the drive uses and set the step output polarity to match.

Thanks,

from what I have tested it does not like anything under 5000 for dir hold.

Dir setup it will accept a value of 1000 with a high dirhold pulse.

It will not run with the 201 preset.(I have 201x).

Is I mentioned before, there is basically zero cost to using large direction setup and hold times so 10000 for each is a good and almost universal number

So.....

Back into step config, 201 preset with inverted step and it's zooming at 120 ipm. No latency warnings either and no crunchy sounds.

I came across another post here about the geckos on the back part of the pulse. It uses really low dir and setup values and with your comment I figured I would try it out.
